The president of the Football Federation of the Valencian Community, Salvador Gomarhas assessed on Radio Marca the current situation in the capital of Turia due to the terrible DANA that plagues the area. In his speech, the president acknowledged that he is also experiencing hours of tension due to the situation of his family.
“I was in a polygon in Ribarroja and they were trapped since the afternoon. The latest news is at four in the morning, they have run out of battery, but I know they are fine… In principle, because I haven’t heard anything again,” he said about his daughter.
Furthermore, the president has recounted his team’s experience in the face of this catastrophe: “I have two federation workers sleeping on the road, four others who were saved by a miracle, others who have lost their car… It is a disaster. I would say unprecedented, but I already experienced this in the 80s.”
Gomar has also recognized that there are hours of great tension and a lot of work ahead. “The worst is what comes next, collecting the mud and cleaning. And some will appear missing, others will have been carried away by the water“he stated.
Regarding the damage suffered, he added: “We have to make an assessment of everything and see which facilities have been damaged. The worst thing here is the human side, the people who have lost their homesthose who live on ground floors in the area of Paiporta, Picanya, Alfafar, Benetúser… which are only three kilometers from Valencia.”
