Andorra la VellaFEDA predicts that the windmills to generate wind energy at the Pic del Maià could be in operation by 2027, as explained by director general Albert Moles. There would be four mills and the transfer of land by the communes of Canillo and Encamp is necessary.
The whole process would start with the approval of the plan by the Government which should be closed during 2025 and in that same year the construction of all the infrastructures should be tendered. It takes a year to make it and at the same time the civil works must be done. Ultimately, after testing, it is expected to be operational by 2027.
The infrastructure would be capable of generating energy equivalent to 10% of national demand. An important aspect is that wind energy generation is important in winter, which is the period with the greatest need for production because it hosts the maximum peaks in demand.
Wind power has an approximate cost of 30 million euros and is part of FEDA’s investment plan for the next five years, which amounts to 180 million euros. The projects will be for new infrastructure and improvements to the electrical networks. A key issue is strengthening the electricity connection with Spain.
One of the challenges of the future is to increase the purchase of ‘clean’ energy from that which is imported from neighboring countries. The goal is to reach 100% renewable imported energy by 2030.
