MANILA, Philippines–Risa Sato and the Creamline Cool Smashers are parting ways after the longtime player requested an early release from her contract ahead of the new PVL season.

The Cool Smashers said Friday that factoring Sato’s contributions to the team over the past years, they have allowed her departure request even before her contract officially expired in December.

“In recognition of her many years of dedicated service to the team, we have extended our understanding and utmost consideration regarding her request, granting her certain accommodations to support her as an athlete while respecting the terms of the contract,” said Creamline in a statement.

The Filipino-Japanese middle blocker joined Creamline in 2018 and went on to win 10 PVL titles with the league’s winningest team. Sato was also part of the historic Grand-Slam-winning roster last season.

There has been no announcement yet of Sato’s next destination.
