UGT This Monday he started his 44th Confederal Congressthe conclave in which the re-election of Pepe Alvarez as secretary general for his third consecutive term. In the first of the three days in which the union will draw up its roadmap for the coming years, The leader of the organization has vindicated the work of unionism against those who criticize them as “subsidized organizations” and their fight to achieve progress not only in labor but also in social matters, a path in which he has thanked the coalition government for its support.
Álvarez has assured that UGT is in a “good moment” and has highlighted the “extraordinarily positive” management of the last four years, in which he has highlighted as achievements the labor reform, the pension reform, the ‘law rider’ and the increase in the minimum wage, among others. “Never in such a short time has so much been achieved”assured the general secretary of UGT, who has also outlined future challenges, such as achieving a “restorative dismissal”, transferring the IMV to the autonomous communities or abandoning the IPREM and using a new reference to calculate the amount of aid based on the risk of poverty.
With these words, the general secretary of UGT closed the opening ceremony of the 44th Confederal Congress of the organization, which will vote on his re-election on Wednesday. He has done so supported by thousands of fellow members of the organization and before authorities who have also intervened in the start of the union conclave, such as the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz; the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo; the leader of the employers’ association, Antonio Garamendi, and his CCOO counterpart, Unai Sordo, among others.
