NRL finals 2023 | Reece Walsh delivers cheeky dig to Dolphins over Broncos recruits ahead of preliminary final

A confident Reece Walsh has delivered a cheeky dig to the Dolphins ahead of his side’s preliminary final clash against the Warriors.

Speaking on 4BC’s Wide World of Sports Radio, Walsh was asked about coach Kevin Walters comments about how there’s no ceiling at the Broncos and whether there’s more room to grow.

In reply, the cheeky fullback had a message for his club’s arch rivals as teammates Tom Flegler and Herbie Farnworth prepare to make the switch at the end of the season.

“For sure (there’s more room to grow), that’s if the Dolphins don’t keep stealing our players,” he laughed before crediting his side’s resurgence.

“It’s exciting, it’s really good for rugby league, I think, and really good for Brisbane too.

“There’s a lot of homegrown talent, it’s good to see we all want to stick together and work hard. It just shows when we work hard together, where it can take us.”

Walsh’s return to the Broncos has propelled them into premiership contenders after his two-year stint at the Warriors.

The fullback has injected pace and finesse into the Broncos spine which has changed dramatically over the past two years with Adam Reynolds’ arrival in the halves.

While Walsh described his halfback as a “headache”, the superstar heaped praise on the man who’s turned them into a finals side after a dire few seasons which included a last-placed finish in 2020.

“He’s a headache but he’s a good headache,” he laughed.

“The little fella, seeing his legs tick along, he’s just really smart, he gets us around the field really well and for myself it’s awesome to have someone like him directing and just seeing the little things that he does on and off the field.

“He’s a really calm person on the field and he gets us around and then when he gets off he’s a larrikin, he gets the boys together good so he’s got a good balance of it and if I could be half the player he is, I’d be pretty stoked.”
