NorthPort beats TNT to get a 4-0 start for the first time

ANTIPOLO — NorthPort extended its winning ways on Sunday night, holding off TNT, 100-95, for a 4-0 start in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Batang Pier drew big plays from their defensive ace Joshua Munzon, who starred anew with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists, and 4 steals in the gutsy takedown of a perennial title contender at Ynares Center here.

“Defense won it for us in this game. We all know TNT has a lot of threats, especially on offense. Luckily we were able to stop them, including their import (Rondae Hollis-Jefferson),” said assistant Renzy Bajar, who spoke to the press on behalf of head coach Bonnie Tan.

The shipping franchise notched a milestone with the win, as it turned in its first 4-0 start in club history.

NorthPort also took advantage of the suspension of big man Poy Erram, who was penalized for hitting Glenn Yang in TNT’s conference-opening loss to Hong Kong Eastern two nights ago.

Import Kadeem Jack had 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Arvin Tolentino added another double-double with 17 and 11. William Navarro chipped in 12 points and nine boards as the Batang Pier set its sights on Converge, which they battle Dec. 12, at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Calvin Oftana had 20 points while Hollis-Jefferson 19 for the Tropang Giga, who will have quite a trek in their hunt for their first win as they battle 1-2 Magnolia on Dec. 11.
