Non-EU immigrants boost the population in Andorra

Andorra la VellaOn November 30, 2024, the population resident in the Principality of Andorra amounts to 86,931 people, which represents an increase of 2.6% (+2,208 people) compared to November 2023. This growth is mainly concentrated in the parishes of Andorra la Vella (+508 residents, +2.1%), Encamp (+431 residents, +3.4%), Escaldes-Engordany (+346 residents, +2.2%), Canillo (+297 residents, +5.2%), La Massana (+281 residents, +2.4%) and Sant Julià de Lòria (+213 residents, +2 .2%). The parish that has grown the least has been Ordino (+132 residents, +2.4%).

By nationality, the annual increase measured in November is concentrated in the group of other nationalities with a total of +1,544 people (+12.0%), followed by people of Andorran nationality with +482 people ( +1.2%), of Spanish nationality with +207 people (+1.0%) and of French nationality with +91 people (+2.4%). People with Portuguese nationality registered a decrease of 116 people (-1.3%) compared to the same month of the previous year.

South American groups

The increase in population is mainly due to the increase in South American residents. Specifically, the main part of the increase comes from Argentines, Colombians and Peruvians. There are 474 more Argentines and there are already 3,111, while Colombians increase by 339 (1,282) and Peruvians by 233 (764). This last group is the one with the highest percentage increase with 44% compared to the previous year.

The only resident group that is decreasing is the Portuguese. It’s a constant drip. The decrease in the last year is 116 people, but it has not stopped since the pandemic. An important aspect is that the Argentine collective is getting closer to overtaking the French as the third group of residents. It is 700 people away from achieving it: 3,800 to 3,100. In the last year, the French have increased by 0.2% and the Argentines by 18%.
