Justice annuls the first round of the presidential elections in Romania

The Constitutional Court of Romania this Friday annulled the first round of the presidential elections on November 24won by the pro-Russian Calin Georgescu, so the electoral process must be repeated.

The United States accused Russia this Thursday of having intervened in the first round of the Romanian presidential elections, held on November 24 and in which Calin Georgescu unexpectedly came first, an almost unknown candidate, ultranationalist and pro-Russian, who developed an intense campaign on social networks.

“Romanian authorities are uncovering a large-scale Russian effort and well-funded to influence the recent presidential elections”denounced the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, during a meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the Maltese capital, Valletta.

Calin Georgescu, whom the polls sadly gave 6% of the votes, ended up winning the first presidential round with 23%, a victory due above all to a massive campaign on social networks, especially TikTok, in which his followers and the reproductions of his messages skyrocketed in a few days.
