Andorra la VellaEnergy demand has increased by 1% during 2024. The figure, but most outstanding is that the highest peak of demand in one day in the history of Andorra has taken place. It reached 131 megawatts at one point. It was January 9 and the total cumulative consumption was 2,567,617 kW/h. The previous record of January 2023 was exceeded by 4.1%. The figure is important because “FEDA sizes the network to be able to reach the maximum point of demand”, as explained by the Director of Operations and New Structures Jordi Travé .
24% of the country’s demand is made with its own production. This percentage is reached between cogeneration, incinerator furnace, hydroelectric and photovoltaic. FEDA’s objective is to “cover a third of the national energy demand with own production”. This coverage is different according to the time of year since in the low season it can reach 50%, but when there is more demand (January) where it is around 15%.
Travé commented that the price of the kW/hour supplied by FEDA during 2024 was 0.176 euros. In Spain, domestic users with an annual consumption between 2,500 and 5,000 kw/h pay 0.244 euros. In France it would be 0.278 euros. The European Union average would be even higher: 0.289.
Comparing rates, customers in Andorra pay 40% less than in Spain and 60% less than in France. The difference is still higher in relation to the European Union average. In terms of quality of supply, the cut-off time for the whole year was 31.8 minutes. The number is marked by u. 20-minute incident that took place in September. In comparison, the service has a much higher quality than in neighboring countries.
