The stories behind the shocking images that have spread through social networks since Tuesday night are heartbreaking. Thousands of families have experienced the worst hours of their lives as a result of the DANA which has been especially cruel to the province of Valencia, where until the publication of this news 155 deaths are recorded. Among these stories stands out that of Silvia, a pharmacist who recorded a farewell message for her husband and son. “This is horrible, love. This is very bad. I’m drowning and I can’t take it anymore,” she begins to say desperately in her audio.
Before the alarms went off on citizens’ cell phones at eight in the afternoon, Silvia began to witness how the pharmacy where she works was filled with water. “I don’t know what to do and I can’t call emergency services.“They won’t take it from me,” continued the pharmacist, who was in the Valencian town of Benetúser. “Please, take care of my child and always remind him of the mother he has had, even if it was only for eight months,” Silvia begged her couple while standing on a table. “Tell everyone I love them”he said goodbye.
On the other end of the phone, desperation also overwhelmed his partner. “I kept hearing ‘I’m trapped and I can’t get out’. She was inside, Her body was floating and I thought she was dead.“says her husband, who also remembers that his wife was already “drowning” about twenty minutes before the alerts arrived. Finally the water burst the blind from the establishment and Silvia floated downstream until she was rescued by emergency services. “It was terrible and today I have her with me. She is safe and sound,” concludes her husband.
