Sometimes the mind plays tricks on us and makes us see faces where there really are none. This phenomenon is called pareidolia, and sometimes it has terrifying results.
This is the case of a photo that has gone viral on X (the social network formerly known as Twitter), in which you can see what appears to be a sinister hooded face with a dark eye that stares at the person taking the photograph.
The person who shared the photo on X accompanied it with this comment: “I almost landed the plane by myself”. In the comments, others join in the panic: “I would have a heart attack.”
But in reality it is not a sinister passenger with shark eyes: it is an optical effect caused by a person who is sleeping in mid-flight.
What appears to be an eye is actually a black headset. The person has the hood of a sweatshirt pulled over their face to protect themselves from the light.
