Manuel NeuerBayern’s goalkeeper, has always been characterized by his risky shots at goal. Many in his career were key to avoiding goals, some remained serious failures, but the last one, perhaps, has been one of the most unfortunate: It cost him his first red and a broken rib.
He starred last Tuesday in the round of 16 of the German Cup in the match that faced the Bavarian colossus against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. The goal came in a long ball for the race to the Frinpong area, a ball that would not reach after the collision forced by the Bayern goalkeeper.
He arrived late, very late, and that impact cost Neuer the first straight red card of his entire career and leave his team with ten in the transcendental match.
That’s as far as the anecdotal foul ended, a situation that, as it emerged this Wednesday, has more conditions for Neuer: the goal “He has a broken rib and probably won’t play again this year”as stated by coach Vincent Kompany in statements to the press.
This loss is one more for a team heavily burdened by absences and which this week is desperately seeking its first away victory in the Champions League.
