The vice president of the United States, Kamala Harrishas privately expressed to his advisors and allies that he is considering two main options for his political future: compete again for the White House in the 2028 elections or aspire to the position of governor of California within two years, according to the Politico portal.
In telephone conversations with his close circle, Harris has insisted that she “continues in the fight”according to Politico, which cites five people close to the vice president who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal dynamics.
According to these sources, the vice president plans to discuss her future with her family during the upcoming winter holidays.
In the short term, Harris and her team are trying to decide how and when she will raise her voice against Trump and how he will reaffirm his role within the Democratic Party.
In the last days of his mandate, he will have the task of presiding over the session of Congress that will certify Trump’s electoral victory on January 6 and, in addition, he will attend the inauguration of the new president on January 20.
“There will be a desire to hear her voice and that void will not last for long,” a person close to Harris told Politico.
The deliberations about her political future come after four intense months in which Harris went from being Joe Biden’s running mate to leading the Democratic ticket, managing to revitalize the party before suffering a resounding defeat at the polls.
Harris has been out of the public eye since he lost the November 5 election to Trump. This Monday she concluded almost a week of retreat in Hawaii, where she was accompanied by her family and some of her main advisors.
