Andorra la VellaThe Generalitat has authorized the Catalan Sports Council to grant one grant of 4 million euros to La Seu d’Urgell City Council to contribute to the financing of the construction of the new facilities of the INEFC Pirineuswhere the degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CAFE) specializing in mountain and river sports.
In this way, it is expected that the tender for the project will be published this December itself, that the works begin this coming spring i that the new center is ready for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
according to RadioSeuapart from the 4 million contributed by the Catalan executive, the new building project also has a grant from the Diputació de Lleida of the same amount. The rest, about 3.6 million euros, will be contributed directly by the City Council of the Seu. The total cost will be 11.6 million.
The new building, remember from the Generalitat, must “contribute to consolidating INEFC Pirineus as a Catalan, national and international reference in the training of professionals in sports in the natural environment”in addition to “reinforce its economic, sporting and social impact on the territory”.
The executive indicates that “a sustainable architectural project integrated with the environment” has been prepared. The new facilities will be located on a plot of land owned by the municipality the Horta del Valiranext to the Santa Magdalena district, and will have a large access space and a square of more than 500 square meters to access the building. The facade of the property will have a profile inspired by the unique silhouette of the Serra del CadÃ. It will have classrooms, offices for the administrative and management part, work area for the teaching staff, a library, a study room, laboratories and workshops. It will also include a multi-purpose court, a cardio and free weights room, an event hall, a cafeteria and outdoor courts.
Since the 2021-2022 academic year, when the studies were launched, the students (40 per academic year) temporarily take theoretical classes in the Les Monges Cultural Center building, while the practicals take place in municipal spaces and facilities and collaborating entities. The most significant nature activities carried out at the INEFC Pirineus are canoeing, in Parc del Segre; horse riding sessions at the Agricultural School; alpine skiing or snowboarding at the La Molina resort, and cross-country skiing at the Tot Nòrdic resorts.
