Andorra la VellaThis Wednesday, the press conference after the Council of Ministers has been marked by a tense moment between the Government spokesman and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, Guillem Casaland a journalist who has directly hinted that the executive is afraid of concord.
The insinuation, based on the criticism that several members of the Government have thrown at the party for the three amendments in their entirety that will be debated tomorrow on the budget bill, has provoked a forceful response from the minister. “We’re not scared. They do their job and we do ours“, he affirmed, while defending the coherence of the Government’s actions.
It doesn’t scare me. They do the work they have to do, and the Government does the work it has to do. The electoral process is almost two and a half years away. There is nothing to suggest otherwise. ”
However, the minister has taken the opportunity to question the attitude of concord. He emphasized that Wake up Laurèdiaa movement related to the party, supports impulse projects for Sant Julià de Lòria, while concordaccording to the minister, does not facilitate the way to move forward with the budgets. “The government is aware of the concerns of Lauredian citizens and is trying to provide answers with new infrastructures”he pointed out, making it clear that he considers the collaboration of all political forces essential to advance the welfare of the country.
“If we want a detour to Sant Julià de Lòria and promote several public buildings, we cannot work and contemplate the corresponding items. To centralize it in a Parish that is clearly governed by this political formation that I was commenting on, Concordia. At the same time, they present an amendment of the totality to the budget and give yourself the luxury of voting against this budget where these budget items are included. Therefore, the Government is also working for the benefit of the territory of Andorra as a whole,” said the minister Casal.
The Concordia amendment
But the situation is marked by the recent announcement of concord of amendments to the entire budget project for the year 2025, a position that the party described as eminently symbolic due to the Government’s absolute majority.
At her appearance at the General Council, the councillor Maria Ángeles Aché and the party leader, Cerni Escaléthey defended their position alleging that the executive repeatedly violates the General Law of Public Finances. Aché stressed that, over the past decade, budgets have been approved late, citing examples such as those for the years 2022, 2023 and 2024, all approved in February, far from the established legal deadlines.
The councilor affirmed that this dynamic generates “an acceleration” that is unnecessary and disrespectful of the legal processes, adding a direct criticism to the budgetary operation of the executive. however, concord maintains its opposition to a bill that it considers lacking in foresight and adaptation to the real needs of the public.
