This second installment, which still captivates the public with a stellar cast consisting of Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington, swept the international box office during its first weekend.

In his debut, Gladiator II has managed to exceed all expectations with more than 750,000 viewers and a collection of 5.7 million euros. This resounding success represents 61% of the weekend’s screen share in Spain, surpassing the debut of the first film by 127%. With these numbers, it has become the best release of all time for an epic and historically themed film, as well as the best debut for an action film for 16+.
Peter Pascalwho plays Lucius Verus, highlighted the director’s dedication: “Ridley works incredibly hard. His imagination is endless. He usually finishes his films under budget and under time, a real feat”said the actor in an interview on the occasion of the premiere.
On a global scale, Gladiator II it has been released in 63 countriesearning a total of $87 million in its first weekend, with Spain taking third place. The film, which will be screened in the United States on November 22, is already considered the best debut in the filmography of Ridley Scott outside the US market.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports extended in 2024 the agreement signed in 2023 with Carlemany Island cinemas to promote cinema in Catalan, allocating a sum of 50,000 euros to subsidize the difference in the price of tickets, which can be purchased for just 4 euros. This initiative has proven to be a success, since during 2023 it managed to triple the attendance in the theaters, going from 2,050 spectators to more than 6,500.
The Minister of Culture, Monica Bonell, he emphasized that this measure has made it possible to consolidate the model of promoting cinema in Catalan, with the aim of normalizing its presence and getting the new generations used to consuming cinema in their language.
In addition, Bonell stressed the importance of continuing to bet on children’s and family films in Catalan, as this creates a solid foundation for the future, in which young people get used to watching cinema in Catalan and, eventually, become adults who continue opting for this type of production.
