Facebook founder Zuckerberg meets with Trump at Mar-a-Lago after years of tensions

Mark Zuckerbergone of the founders of Facebook and president of Meta, met this Wednesday with the president-elect of the United States, donald trumpat the latter’s residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida), according to the newspapers The New York Times and The New York Post.

According to The New York Timeswhich cites three people with knowledge of the meeting, Zuckerberg sought meeting with Trump as an attempt to improve the relationship between the two after a decade marked by tensions.

Trump has repeatedly accused Meta of unfairly censoring his views and those of other conservative voices on its platforms.

Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday night and went to Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday for the meeting, according to sources cited by the Times.

During the meeting, both exchanged pleasantries, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his victory in the November 5 elections.

After the meeting, held in the early afternoon, Trump and Zuckerberg planned to have dinner together at the president-elect’s hotel that same night, according to the same New York Times sources.

“It is a crucial moment for the future of innovation in the United States. Mark appreciated the invitation to have dinner with President Trump and the opportunity to meet with members of his team to talk about the next Administration,” said a Meta representative in a statement sent to The New York Times and The New York Post.

He New York Times also reported that Zuckerberg had at least two private calls with Trump over the summer. In one of them, the businessman conveyed his good wishes to Trump and said he was “praying” for him after the assassination attempt he suffered in July during a rally in Pennsylvania.
