The Civil Guard has intervened 11 marine fossils plus the tools used to extract them, in the Sevillian town of Lora del Río.
Agents belonging to the Main Post of Lora del Río, in their citizen security work and during the intensification of surveillance to prevent the theft of fruits in the countryside, located a man in an agricultural area of this town. parked vehicle, which made them suspicious.
After negotiating with the residents of the area, who did not know the owner of the property, they inspected the surroundings. This resulted in the location and identification of two people carrying various tools such as hammers, hoes and chisels, not providing a credible version that would motivate their presence in said area.
Once transferred to the place where the vehicle was located, the agents carried out a visual inspection of the trunk. Inside they found a large backpack loaded with what, a priori, they looked like just stonesbut that preserved at least eleven rock fragments that could be marine fossils.
Given what was discovered, the agents requested the presence of a patrol from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona), specialists in the matter, who They confirmed that they were marine fossils. A reconnaissance of the area was carried out where signs of the place where these people could have looted the fossils were found, observing the existence of more remains.
Finally, the aforementioned fossils were seized and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority competent in the matter, in addition to communicating the existence of more remains in said area. The tools carried and allegedly used for their extraction were also seized.
