Andorra la VellaEl Prat del Call has finally hosted the popular representation of the burlesque farce of l’Ossa d’Ordino, which was supposed to have taken place last December 8, but had to be postponed for weather reasons.
The work, by the Association of Popular Culture of Ordino, has been divided into two parts: a first performed by the children called ‘El despertar de l’osseta’ and, the second, performed by the adults which corresponds to the traditional farce of ‘L’ultima Ossa d’Ordino’. A “continuation and consolidation of the work” according to the president of the Popular Culture Association of Ordino, Albert Roig.
A total of 27 performers (13 children between 10 and 15 years old and 14 adults over 16 years old), accompanied by six musicians from the Grallers and drummers from the Castellers d’Andorra have performed the Ossa d’Ordino in front of a main square that has gathered residents, despite the low temperatures.
This year, the novelty is marked by the premiere of the bear’s new costume which has been designed by the Catalan set designer Pau Fernández and has been made by Època Barcelona, a workshop specializing in stage costumes. The new bone skin has allowed a more realistic perception of the animal with added volume and the integration of the mask into the costume. Likewise, the costume of the little bear has also been modified to match, which has been made by Jadeita.
The dialogues are elaborated, as every year, making references to the political and social current affairs of Ordinance, but also of the country, referring to the lack of parking lots and their high price; trends in social networks such as ‘Crumble Cookies’ or the ‘BeReal’ and ‘Instagram’ platforms; the POUP or the trustees, among others.
In addition, this year there has been a qualitative leap in the dialogues of the children’s bear, since they have been created by the group’s performers themselves, in such a way that they refer to problems and situations in their daily lives.
“It was a participatory action by the small and preadolescent actors themselves,” he pointed out. Fathers, mothers and relatives have also participated altruistically. “One of the main characteristics is that it promotes social cohesion, we don’t ask where they come from, or what gender they are, we work in community to maintain traditions that are alive,” he declared.
The Ossa d’Ordino is part of the Pyrenees Bone Festival recognized by Unesco as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity; it is included by the Government in the General Inventory of the Cultural Heritage of Andorra and declared a Festival of cultural interest.
