Andorra la VellaThe government has released the video with the arrival of the first units of menstrual cups and panties. “My menstruation, my decision” is an action promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock that is based on the free distribution of a menstrual cup or panties. The purpose of the initiative is to promote the use of reusable menstrual products.
The campaign aims, on the one hand, to promote a change in habits in the use of these sustainable alternatives to the detriment of single-use menstrual products and, on the other, to guarantee access to education about one’s own body and health with a gender perspective.
Triple objective
According to the Government, the initiative presents a triple objective of environmental, gender and economic justice:
- Sustainability: reusable menstrual products contribute to the prevention and minimization of waste.
- Health: menstruation has often been treated with silence and shame. It is necessary to break stigmas and taboos and promote sexual and reproductive health.
- Savings: the use of reusable menstrual products means financial savings in the long run, given that they have a longer useful life compared to single-use products, and they align with the principles of the circular economy.
