Dozens dead and injured after a pitched battle between fans of two football clubs in Guinea

The clashes between fans of two football clubs who were playing this Sunday in the final of a tournament in the city of N’zérékoré, located in the southeast of Guineathey have left dozens dead and injured. This has been reported by the Media Guinée portal, without the local authorities having provided a balance so far.

The incidents occurred as a result of referee decisions during a match between the Labé and N’Zérékoré clubs, which They competed for first place in a tournament dedicated to the leader of Guinea’s military junta after the 2021 coup, General Mamadi Dombouya.

Supporters of both teams have starred a pitched battle causing a stampede and some riots in which members of the Guinean Police have had to intervene using tear gas, the aforementioned information portal and other local media point out. In addition, they have looted and set fire to a police station in the area and have set up barricades around the stadium.

The Guinean Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, has regretted the episodes and has called for calm so that “hospital services are not hindered when providing first aid to the injured.”
