Andorra la VellaOn Wednesday morning, the Police arrested a 32-year-old man, the sole administrator of a company dedicated to the sale and rental of vehicles, as the alleged author of crimes against security in legal trafficking for creating and marketing false documentation, and against the administration of justice for money laundering.
The Economic-Financial Investigation Unit of the Police began the investigation in 2022 by order of the Battalion in the face of the suspicions of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIFAND) for possible money laundering operations.
Investigations by specialists in socio-economic crimes would point out that the businessman would have created a framework to acquire high-end vehicles in several European countries which he then sold to citizens resident in France, mainly. The car, however, was registered in Andorra in the name of his company and not the owner of the vehicle. From there, he created a fictitious rental contract for the owner to use the car, with Andorran registration and as if it were not his, abroad. The goal of this modus operandi it was to save paying French value added tax and CO2 tax.
During the searches, which began on Wednesday and lasted until the morning of this Thursday, nine high-end vehicles were seized, located in a ship and in the employer’s parking lot; as well as numerous documentation and electronic devices that will have to be analyzed and that were found at his address, which is also the headquarters of the company.
According to the calculations of the Police specialists, as far as the French State is concerned, the damage of the tax fraud would be millions of euros.
A part of the investigation, which remains open, is classified as confidential. More arrests in the future are not ruled out.
