The amendment of one of the feminist currents of the PSOE, the call of the classic feminists, which proposed eliminating the acronym Q+ from the references made within the Federal Congress presentation to the group LGTBI has come out ahead in the votes of what will be the definitive text of the socialist ideology for the next few years.
The text of the presentation that the federal leadership of the PSOE brought to this 41st Congress mentioned LGTBIQ+ people several times. But one of the feminist currents of the party I did not agree with incorporating the acronym Q+which refer to queer people and other identities and orientations, so he presented an amendment to eliminate them that has finally been approved by the plenary session of the conclave, reports Ep.
The approval of said amendment implies that in the text the previous name will be collected again that came forward in the previous PSOE congress.
This question was one of those that has caused the most confrontation in the socialist ranks in recent years. During the last legislature, when the PSOE governed in coalition with Unidas Podemos, the Ministry of Equality then commanded by Irene Montero processed the trans law, which caused strong tensions in the PSOE due to the gender self-determination that the norm included.
After many tugs of war and the confrontation with feminist sectors such as the one led by former vice president Carmen Calvo, the PSOE ended up assuming gender self-determination and giving their full support to the trans law. After the July 2023 elections, the Ministry of Equality returned to the hands of the PSOE, with Ana Redondo at the head.
Now, the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE supports by majority the amendment that asked to eliminate the acronym Q+ because it “implicitly question the enlightened feminist trajectory of the PSOE and lead the party into cultural wars that distance it from the social majority.
