MANILA, Philippines — University of the East and women’s volleyball team coach Dr. Obet Vital have parted ways two months before the UAAP Season 87 volleyball competition.

Vital on Tuesday resigned from his post, saying “their differences in vision particularly program development” led to his “tough decision.”

“It was a tough decision, but there are things beyond our control that led to this,” Vital said.

“There were differences in vision, particularly regarding program development, grassroots initiatives, and the long-term direction of the team. It became clear that our goals and approach no longer aligned.

“Still, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had with the team and the support from the UE community.”

Dr. Vital joined the UE program last year and recruited California Academy–Antipolo stars Casiey Dongallo, Jelai Gajero, Kizzie Madriaga, Shamel Fernandez, and Jenalyn Umayam.

He took over as interim coach after after head coach Jerry Yee was suspended just three games into the tournament.

Under Vital, UE finished with a 3-11 record for sixth place in UAAP Season 86. He also coached the Lady Warriors in the V-League Collegiate Challenge and the Shakey’s Super League Preseason Tournament.

“I’ll be taking a short break to recharge and reflect before figuring out what’s next for me,” he said.
