HE’S CAPTURED the attention of the nation with our favourite topic of conversation – the weather – so it’s fitting then that Alan O’Reilly, the founder of Carlow Weather, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Carlow Ambassador Award.
Carlow Chamber of Commerce will present Alan with the accolade at the forthcoming Carlow Business Awards in Visual on Thursday 28 September.
The title of Carlow Ambassador recognises Alan’s exceptional contribution to his local community on a wider platform. The Tullow man’s unwavering dedication to weather forecasting has made him a respected authority on weather information nationwide. Carlow Weather is now a well-known brand across the country with more than 200,000 followers on social media.
Alan also works as a customer experience manager for Carlow-based company Blacknight Internet Solutions.
As a regular contributor to the national airwaves, television and local media, Alan not only provides invaluable weather insights on storms and major weather events but he also showcases Carlow to a wider audience. His drone photography regularly illustrates the beauty of our Carlow landscapes.
Brian O’Farrell, CEO of Carlow Chamber of Commerce, lauded his accomplishments.
“Alan has been a powerful ambassador for Carlow, representing our region on a huge stage. His commitment to keeping our community informed about weather events, from snowfall to storms, to forecasts for Electric Picnic weekend is exemplary.”
Carlow Chamber of Commerce president Rowena Dooley also extends warm congratulations to Alan, emphasising his dedication to weather forecasting and his genuine affection for Carlow.
“Alan’s contributions have not only kept Carlow residents well informed but have also elevated the region’s profile,” she said.
Hailing from Tullow, Alan O’Reilly follows in the footsteps of his partner Eimear Ní Bhraonáin, who received the Carlow Ambassador title last year.
On hearing the announcement, he said he was honoured to be chosen as the Carlow Ambassador. “I’m always proud of my Tullow roots and the opportunities provided to me by my native Carlow. I will continue to promote Carlow at every opportunity.”
