THERE was a good crowd out for the Integrated Soccer Blitz on Friday taking place at the SETU Sports Campus with 16 teams showing up to take part. Teams from Tyndall College, Carlow Africa, the Rohingya Community, UNUM, Tullys, An Garda Siochána, Dinn Ri, SETU Carlow, Netwatch, Carlow Regional Youth Services and the Ukrainian community all took part in a 16 team, four group tournament with the winners advancing to a semi-final.

The Garda team got schooled by the team from Tyndall College in the first semi-final whilst Carlow Africa beat the Ukrainians on a penalty shootout in the second. In the end it was Tyndall who won out. The event organised by An Garda Siochána, Carlow Sports Partnership, the FAI and SETU Carlow was an opportunity to bring the community together through the medium of soccer.

Despite the weather not being the greatest, there was still a good turnout for the event with even local soccer legend and Wexford Women’s Captain, Kylie Murphy joining in the fun, along with former Irish rugby international Mick Galway who showed off some nifty skills with a round ball. There was a trad band playing music throughout the day and food trucks.
