Buding Duremdes reunites with former coach at Cignal

MANILA, Philippines — Buding Duremdes has reunited with her college coach Shaq Delos Santos after finding a new home at Cignal in the ongoing 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Help is on the way for the HD Spikers after losing several players including 11-year veteran and libero Jheck Dionela, who is already with the Farm Fresh Foxies.

Cignal on Wednesday welcomed Duremdes, who teams up with Alas Pilipinas libero Dawn Catindig in protecting their floor in the six-month PVL competition.

Duremdes, the 2022 Reinforced Conference Best Libero, bid farewell to Chery Tiggo after four years and a championship in PVL’s professional debut inside the Ilocos Norte bubble in 2021 with sisters Jaja and Dindin Santiago.

Duremdes is playing for coach Delos Santos, who handled Far Eastern University from 2011 to 2017, for the first time since their glory days with the defunct Petron in the Philippine Superliga.

The veteran libero also reunited with former Lady Tamaraws Gel Cayuna, Gyzelle Sy, and Jovelyn Fernandez.

Cignal had an exodus of players with Rachel Anne Daquis, Dionela, and AJ Jingco signing with Farm Fresh, while Chai Troncoso and Jovelyn Gonzaga joined ZUS Coffee.  Chinchin Basas, and Gen Casugod also parted ways with the HD Spikers.

Despite losing several players, Cignal opened its new season with a dominant 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 win over Farm Fresh on Saturday in Antipolo.

Interestingly, Duremdes could make her Cignal debut against her former team Chery Tiggo on Thursday at Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Aside from Duremdes, Chery Tiggo also lost EJ Laure, who was released by the team along with the libero. Laure’s younger sister Eya is in the process of a contract buyout. 

Ara Galang led Chery Tiggo’s collective effort to overcome Capital1 in five sets last week.
