Andorra la VellaGovernment has agreed to voluntarily join theGlobal Alliance against Hunger and Poverty in the worldproposed by the Brazilian presidency of the G-20. Andorra it adds to the recognition that hunger and malnutrition are perverse manifestations of poverty and persistent structural inequality, and to the need to eradicate poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions and to fully implement theAgenda 2030.
The adhesion to theGlobal Alliance it involves the Principality’s commitment to fostering policies and programs against hunger and poverty, as well as providing guidance and support to policies and programs at the national level. Andorra supports it as well as its mission to support and accelerate efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty (SDGs 1 and 2), while reducing inequalities (SDG 10), contributing to the revitalization of global partnerships for development sustainable development (SDG 17) and the realization of other interrelated SDGs, promoting sustainable, inclusive and just transitions.
This initiative aims to implement, expand and improve social programs for the benefit of the poorest and most vulnerable groups, through a mix of public policies that will bring together the knowledge accumulated over decades regarding income transfer, social protection, school meals and other programs, based on the experiences of member countries and various international organizations.
The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty was born under India’s chairmanship of the G-20, resumed under the Brazilian chairmanship and was formally launched at the Leaders’ Summit held in recent days.
