A plane crash leaves five dead and one injured in critical condition in Costa Rica

The accident of a small plane that occurred this Monday in a mountain in central Costa Rica left five people dead and a wound in critical condition, the Red Cross reported.

After several hours of searching in rain and strong winds, the rescue forces They managed to reach the wreckage of the aircraft around 9:00 p.m. local time (4:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Spain) in the upper part of a mountainous area bordering the province of San José.

“In this area there are five people without vital signs and a 31-year-old woman alive, in critical condition,” said a Red Cross spokeswoman.

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation reported that The occupants of the aircraft were all Costa Ricans. identified as Mario Miranda (pilot), 40 years old; Ruth Mora, 27; Paola Amador, 31; Jean Franco Segura, 28; Gabriela Calleja, 64; and Enrique Castillo, 56.

The accident occurred this Monday in a mountainous area known as Pico Blanco, between the towns of Escazú and Santa Ana, in the province of San José (center), when The plane lost communication and disappeared from radar at around 12:30 local time (18:30 GMT).

The Cessna 206 Stationer light aircraft, registration TI-GER, suffered the accident when it was heading towards the Juan Santamaría airport, on the outskirts of San José, from Tortuguero, province of Limón (Caribbean).

The aircraft was supposed to land at the Tobías Bolaños airport in San José, but due to bad weather he had to deviate towards Juan Santamaría.
