A driver caught at 181 km/h on a snowy road without equipment

Andorra la VellaOn 22 December, the gendarmes established a special control in Ax-les-Thermes to ensure that motorists traveling towards Andorra were carrying equipment. They wanted to avoid the usual problems with cars ‘stuck’ on the road. The condition of the route was complicated by snow and ice.

Tire and equipment monitoring was supplemented by a team that had established a mobile radar on the RN-20. The gendarmes stopped a first vehicle at 158 kilometers in the Perles-et-Castellet area at 158 kilometers per hour on the snowy road. The maximum limit in this area is 90 kilometers per hour.

Absolute record

A second motorist broke all the records. It was monitored by radar at 181 kilometers in the same area of Perles-et-Castellet, with the road covered in ice and snow. It doubled the maximum speed allowed on this stretch. The icing on the cake is that I wanted to arrive in Andorra, with a monumental snowfall, without any equipment.

The gendarmes immediately revoked the driver’s license of the two offenders as it is a criminal offense with the aggravation of the state of the road. Both are of French nationality. One is originally from Toulouse and the other from Aude. The vehicles were immobilized. They were arrested and will have to appear before the Justice.
