A peace agreement when The war rages and takes lives daily life cannot fail to deserve praise and provoke joy. This is what is happening today with the Israeli announcement of the ceasefire against the Hezbollahprotected by Iran in Lebanon. But Not everyone is convinced that it is the right decision.: There are dissenters who fear that this is a temporary solution and Israel should have taken the opportunity to completely liquidate an enemy that will recover and regain its aggressive activity.
The truth is, it is a shame that the end of the conflict, as is expected to happen with that of Hamas in Gaza, does not imply a serious negotiation that guarantees peace with the Palestinians in the two territories, that of Israel and that of its neighbors, which remain under limited authority, but without full control. This could be a step towards creation of a State recognized by both parties and guarantees of respect for borders without frequent attacks by Palestinian militias and Jewish settlements in disputed territories.
The peace agreement with Hezbollah arouses controversy, more than among the interested parties themselves, by analysts and observers who try to delve into the reasons that forced such difficult understanding. Behind the agreement it is evident that there is still President Biden of the United States, who has been trying to stop Netayahu for some time, and wants to end his term on January 20, pointing to success in the search for world peace to his weak biography. It must not have been easy to convince the inflexible Israeli prime minister or himself
impose the decision among his hostile Government or for a part of the Knesset.
On the Israeli side it is evident that it will also have influenced the acceptance of the truce – for some more than the peace that they fear will be altered again at any moment – are its military successes, liquidating the main leaders of the guerrilla, destroying its arsenals and causing irreparable damage to the precarious Lebanon, which has once again been destroyed since it became a growing refuge for Hezbollah. The reality is that it is an agreement that interests both parties and the shame is that it is not taken advantage of to repeat it in Gaza and, immediately, open international negotiations, in search of a definitive agreement to solve the crucial problem that is the division of two states with the benefits that it would mean for both.
