Julià explained that “there are five children” who were among the passengers injured in the accident. One of them, four years old, is in “critical condition and is admitted to the hospital”. He added that the driver is also critical “suffering from a very severe collapse of the ribcage” as a result of the impact.

Almost all Colombians

The person in charge commented that almost all the occupants of the vehicle were of Colombian nationality. There is, however, an Ecuadorian, a Moroccan and a Spaniard. Julià has stated that “the investigation remains open” on the reasons for the accident, although the witnesses have agreed on a failure of the brakes. The driver, according to these versions, would have voluntarily pushed himself against the wall to avoid falling down the ravine on the other side of the road.

The police investigation inquires about “the frequency of this journey by this company and this driver”. He remarked that it is “a mountain road and, therefore, more risky due to bends, especially at night”. There was no ice or snow on the road.
