Six weeks of GIPA training with the GEOs

Six weeks of GIPA training with the GEOs

Andorra la VellaFour agents of the Police Intervention Group (GIPA) and the four aspiring members have completed high-level training with three members of the Special Operations Group of the Spanish National Police, the GEOwho have traveled to Andorra for six weeks to make the course possible.

The GEO, which enjoys great prestige and international recognition, is the elite group of the neighboring police force specializing in high-risk operations. Its counterpart in Andorra, the GIPA, has historically formed both with the French GIGN and with this group, with which it maintains excellent relations.

The training, given by its specialists, has focused on techniques for assault and search operations based on those applied at the European level following the recommendations of the ATLAS network, a structure formed by special police intervention units of the EU member states and associated countries.

Thus, during these six weeks, the police have been able to train the various intervention tactics recreating all kinds of serious and risky scenarios with exercises that will allow them to act with maximum diligence, rigor and planning in case their action is necessary. The practices have been carried out with all the security guarantees in different spaces, both indoor and outdoor and in urban and mountain areas, to exercise the various operational situations and circumstances that the GIPA could encounter. Interventions in which thespecialization, accuracy, appropriate assessment of facts and context, the coordination and the team work they are fundamental.

The GEO had already given this training in Andorra on one occasion before, as it is usually the Andorran police who travel. That is why for three of the current members of the GIPA the course has meant a retraining and updating of techniques and procedures, while the fourth member of the group and the four aspirants have done it for the first time. The candidates to belong to the GIPA, who passed the tests last May, began the training year in September and will still have to face several challenges in the coming months to earn the place. Having the opportunity to to receive training of this level in the country with the GEO is a luxury for the Corps and is possible thanks to theclose collaboration that exists between the Andorran Police and the National Police spanish

The Police also want to express their gratitude to all the institutions and companies that have provided spaces to make the course possible, such as the communes of Encamp and la Massana, the Red Cross, the Lycée Comte de Foix, the Cinemes Illa, Hotansa and Christmas Coaches.

Traffic accident training course with the Civil Guard

Last week, eleven police officers from the Road Safety Unit received a traffic accident training course run by the Civil Guard. The objective, in this case, has been the review of procedures and knowledge in the field in order to acquire new skills and competences, as well as discover new technological tools and their possibilities.

In this sense, the policemen who have received the training have worked the speed calculations and accident recreations, both in terms of collisions between vehicles or hit-and-runs. A meticulous task that requires the utmost rigor and precision in order to draw up the certificates with all the necessary details. Both formations closed last Friday with the corresponding closing ceremonies and the awarding of diplomas in the assembly hall of the central Police office.
