Andorra la Vella campaign to prevent burillas from ending up on the ground

Andorra la VellaThe municipality of Andorra la Vella has launched a new awareness campaign to make the population aware of the negative impact of throwing trash on the ground. The action, as stated by the Minister of Public Services, Environment and Natural Heritage, Jordi Cabanes, seeks to reduce the presence of this waste on public roads with the aim of protecting the environment and improving the image and the cleaning of the parish. “Thousands of litter boxes are collected every week, which not only litter the streets, but also have a considerable negative impact on the natural environment,” he said.

With the desire to reduce their presence and raise awareness among the population, the Department of Hygiene and Public Health have begun distributing portable ashtrays, made with recycled materials, among citizens with a practical solution to prevent the ashtrays from being thrown on the ground “Most of the burillas end up in rivers, forests and street drains, where they prevent the water from circulating properly”, he explained, emphasizing that most of this waste is not made of biodegradable materials, because which, “will remain in our environment for many years”.

Through this campaign, the Commune of Andorra la Vella wants to raise awareness among smokers to adopt more responsible habits and take part in the preservation of public spaces and natural environments to ensure an improved quality of life in the parish with a public space cleaner, safer and healthier. “The ground is not the place for burillas, we want streets without burillas”, emphasized the councillor. The action is part of the community’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
