Andorra la VellaThe Social Democratic Party considers that the situation in La Comella prison has very important shortcomings. Among the main criticisms are the fact that three inmates have to live together in cells of seven and a half meters. And also that the prisoners spend nineteen hours a day locked in this small space.
The Social Democrats have called for a study to be carried out on prison conditions after the debate in the General Council. The social democrats’ questions to the Minister of Justice and Interior Ester Molné about the penitentiary stemmed from the suicide of an inmate.
The PS has made public a video about the debate in the Council on the prison in which the minister is criticized. Specifically, they regret that Molné compared the situation of Comella with that of centers in underdeveloped countries. The social democratic councilor Susanna Vela replied to the minister that the comparison should be made with Nordic prisons. He believes that a small country must have the means to have a center where all the rights of inmates are respected and reintegration is encouraged.
