The Madrid actor Jose Coronado He assured this Saturday that sometimes he considers leaving acting and resting after a long career, but he acknowledged that If he is “not working for ten minutes” he is “out of breath”.
He said it at the Ibero-American Film Festival, where this Saturday night he received the City of Huelva awardthe highest honorary award with which the Huelva contest wants to recognize the career of one of the leading actors in Spanish cinematography.
During his meeting with the media, Coronado admitted, regarding “a very interesting dilemma,” that, due to his age, he considers himself “many nights, with his pillow,” if he wants to continue acting. “Do you want to continue with this? Do you have a chance?“he sometimes asks himself.
“On the one hand, I would like to say no, I I think it’s also good to know how to hang your suit now and dedicate yourself to the great role of your life, which is your personal life. What happens is that the moment I spend ten minutes without working I feel short of breath,” admitted José Coronado, who, above all, confesses to being a lover of what he does.
With all this, he maintains that he is happy to think “of continuing to enjoy this profession until the last day,” which has given him, among others, two Goya Awardsone like Best Leading Actor (There will be no peace for the wicked) and another like Best Supporting Actor (close your eyes), as well as the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2016).
“You have to adapt to the new times”
José Coronado has also reflected on how platforms are modifying the world of filming in Spain, since there are now many more possibilities than before to premiere a series even if the pilot or its first episodes do not succeed on general television.
for him It has not meant an excessive change in the work of the actors, who have to “adapt to the times in which they live and know how to evolve”, without appreciating differences “in terms of filming time with respect to films or series.”
The changes, taking into account that filming of films and series have multiplied, “are more at the production level, since the actor, when preparing his character, what he needs is unify criteria with your directorspending hours, building his character and then having more or less time doing tricks with the camera is more a matter of the director than of the environment.”
“In any case, seeing how the rest of the people in my profession are doing, I absolutely bless the platformsbecause it is true that they have fed half of the profession that previously had it much worse,” Coronado has ruled on this issue.
“Huelva has enriched Ibero-American cinema”
Regarding the Ciudad de Huelva Award, he said that he thought “precious for its meaningbecause Huelva is the main promoter of Ibero-American cinema and for 50 years has enriched it culturally”, something that “is very appreciated.” It is an award that makes him “especially excited about what this festival means,” with a common language spoken by “millions of people on the other side of the Atlantic.”
With an award given to him in recognition of his career, the actor has recognized that “the secret of a long career is have a lot of love for your joba lot of interest in continuing to learn and not passing up opportunities.” And, as a general rule, “don’t be disgusted by anything and also do a lot of theater. The point is to be alive, contributing.”
He has confessed that, in any case, the real prize “is “to be able to continue working and earn a decent living”. “I could live without the awards, but they are icing on the wonderful cake of acting,” he concluded.
