Although in Spain it is not usual, many people have breakfast in a forceful way and together with the coffee or the infusion and toast accompany more elaborate meals like some eggs. But be careful, because it might not be ideal.
The dietician Priya Bansal, former employee of the Apollo Hospital in Delhi, has given her opinion on the subject in a report published by the Mirror: “Eggs and coffee have their own benefits and can be enjoyed as part of a balanced breakfast.”
“Eggs are an inexhaustible source of proteins, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Coffee is known for its high caffeine content, which provides it with stimulating effects,” he continues.
But there’s a problem: Bansal warns that mixing the two could have undesirable consequences for some people due to the interference in nutrient absorption.
Specifically, Priya Bansal points out that the tannins and polyphenols in coffee can block the absorption of iron and calcium of the eggs by the organism.
In line with this opinion, the culinary experts at Prepped Pots suggest wait at least an hour after eating eggs before drinking a cup of coffee or tea.
But there is more. According to OnlyMyHealth, combining eggs and coffee can cause digestive discomfort. This is because both foods stimulate the production of gastric acid, which can cause acid reflux, heartburn, or an upset stomach.
Both eggs and coffee have diuretic properties, which means that may increase the need to urinatewhich can cause dehydration. Therefore, if you combine these two foods, be sure to increase your water intake.
Priya Bansal also adds that coffee can interfere with the absorption of certain medications, including antibiotics or antacids. Therefore, consuming it together with eggs could further disrupt this absorption, reducing its effectiveness.
