More than 50% of Andorra’s immigration comes from South America

More than 50% of Andorra’s immigration comes from South America

Andorra la VellaThe increase in population in the last year, between October 2023 and 2024, is mainly due to the increase in residents from Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Brazil. This is recorded in the data provided by the Department of Statistics. These collectives are growing very significantly and between the three they already have 5,200 people.

Specifically, 5,181. The most important group is that of Argentines, which includes 3,153 residents and at this rate of growth next year it could already surpass the French as the third foreign nationality with the most inhabitants. The French are 3,830. In the last twelve months, the Argentine collective has increased by nearly 600. The French have done so by 40 people.

Percentage-wise, the groups that have grown the most are Colombians and Peruvians. There are 48% more Peruvians than a year ago and they have become 760. In the case of Colombians, the increase has been 42% and currently 760 live in Andorra.

The importance of these groups in the population increase is confirmed by the fact that their growth has been higher than half of Andorra’s overall. The Principality has increased its inhabitants by 2,185 in the last twelve months, of which 1,218 come from these three nationalities. The other group that is also growing, but less, is the Brazilian. Currently, there are 615 with an increase of 71 people compared to the figure of October last year.

Less and less Portuguese

Portuguese residents are the only group to decrease, following the trend of recent years. In the last 12 months they have dropped by 115 people. Since the pandemic, the number of Lusitanian residents has not stopped falling, although it does so in the form of a trickle. 8,566 remain, which is already less than 10% of the Principality’s population: 86,801.

The growth of Andorran nationals has been 410 people, but the majority of the figure corresponds to new births. There are 39,378 nationals for 47,423 foreigners. In terms of percentage, Andorrans are 45.4% and foreigners 54.6%.
