Alert for calls impersonating Andorran numbers

Andorra la VellaThe police warn that several calls have been detected impersonating Andorran phones to request trading investments. This type of cyber attack to commit fraud is called ‘phone spoofing’ and consists of falsifying the phone number to make it look legitimate and create trust.

In this case, the scammers do not impersonate the owner of the line, but use their number in order to contact the potential victim. In the first cases, which were detected on Wednesday evening, the caller was identified as Estefania.

Once they’ve made contact by offering supposed investments, they ask the potential victim to install an app that they’ll actually use to remotely access their device. In this way, they would manage to have access to all the information on the mobile and even to the account and bank details.

The police advise not to download anything or provide any data. If you ever get a call like this, the best thing to do is hang up. If someone is aware that their phone number has been spoofed, they must file a complaint as soon as possible with all the information they have.

The police also warn that scams like these are constantly adapting and improving. It is for this reason that he asks the public to always be alert and to corroborate the information.
