The elected president of USA, donald trumphas appointed this Friday Karoline Leavitt as Secretary of the White Houseafter she served as spokesperson for the Republican’s campaign and the government transition team.
“(Karoline) Leavitt did a phenomenal job as national press secretary in my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce that she will be the White House press secretary,” the Republican said in a statement.
Furthermore, the former spokesperson will become the youngest secretary of US history with only 27 years old. This will occur when the new president takes office on January 20. Before her, the first place was held by Ron Ziegler, spokesman for Richard Nixon (1969-1974) at 29 years old.
The next tenant of the White House has highlighted that Leavitt is “intelligent, tough and has proven to be a very effective communicator“I have the utmost confidence that he will stand out on the podium and help us convey our message to the American people to make America great again,” he emphasized.
Unconditional to Trump
Leavitt served as a spokesperson for the Trump campaign during this election cycle and the transition team, in addition to working as deputy press secretary during the magnate’s first term. A native of New Hampshire, he tried unsuccessfully to win a seat in the United States House of Representatives in his home state in 2022. After that campaign, he joined Trump’s press team for his third presidential bid.
The role of press secretary is fundamental in the US administration and is one of the most visible faces of the Government. Trump went through four press secretaries during his last time in the White House: Sean Spicer, who resigned six months after taking office; Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who held the position the longest, about two years; Stephanie Grisham, and Kayleigh McEnany.
The 27-year-old communicator defined Trump’s victory in the elections as “the greatest political comeback in history”. “He defeated the great technological oligarchs who tried to silence him, the justice system armed against him and the fake news that have lied about him and his supporters for years,” he stated then on his X social network account.
New appointments
Trump has made new appointments in recent days, including some controversial ones, such as the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. as his next secretary at the head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) despite his positions against vaccines and for having given rise to misinformation related to the origin of AIDS.
Another nomination that stood out was that of his lawyer Todd Blanchewho represented him in several criminal cases, for the position of deputy attorney general, who is tasked with manage daily functions of the department while advises the attorney general about office priorities.
Also that of the governor of North Dakota, Doug Burgumto hold the position of next Secretary of the Interiorhead of a department in charge of managing most of the country’s natural resources, as well as agencies such as the Geological Survey or the National Park Service.
