Andorra la VellaTime passes and eras change but the anxieties, conflicts and interests of human beings often remain unchanged. This reflection is what the Argentinian artist resident in Andorra, Martín Blanco, wants to convey to viewers through his new series ‘Dies Irae’.
An exhibition made up of fifteen large-format oil paintings that opened this Thursday at Espai Caldes and can be visited until February 2025.
“I’m really interested in talking about the communication we have today, how we interact and relate through technology, and how this difference between the real world and the virtual world is not so clear, which makes us lose a little bit of the perspective of the reality” pointed out whiteadding that sometimes people say or do things online that they wouldn’t say or do in real life. “Ways of expression change with each generation, but this does not imply that what is modern has more validity than the old or the classic. In the end, we are talking about the same thing, with the peculiarities of each era” added the artist
The work behind the artist
This exhibition, in fact, can be considered a new artistic journey for whitewhich until now had never presented a purely pictorial work. “I have always dedicated myself to drawing and digital art. Working on this project has been like returning to my roots, since painting had remained as an anecdote of the University of Fine Arts. I’m very satisfied, because it’s like reconciling myself with oil painting” he emphasized, Martinwhile explaining that the title of the exhibition is inspired by a poem from the 13th century.
“I started creating large works with the series ‘La moderna aroma de la vida’, which I inaugurated in 2016, and, since then, I have lost the fear of working in this format” said the artist, who also mentioned which always has Dalí and Caravaggio as references. “This space is clearly committed to contemporary culture, and this work is modern art, but it maintains a common thread with the present” indicated, on the other hand, the Minister of Cultural Life of Escaldes-Engordany, Valentine Closa.
Less distance with contemporary art
“Many think that contemporary art is very far from the general public, but I think that in this exhibition hall we work so that this distance is lost” he added, closedemphasizing that the space will soon host very powerful exhibitions, such as an exhibition dedicated to the Spanish painter Maria Blanchard or a collaboration with the Barcelona Museum of Forbidden Art.
In fact, the show, as recalled by the director of the Escaldes Cultural Art Center (CAEE), Aurora Baena, it will be complemented, as usual, by complementary activities. Among these, the painting workshop by the same artist has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 1 at 11 a.m. or the talk between white and the journalist Andres Luengo about the artist’s work that will be held on Friday 24 January at 7.30pm. In addition, free guided tours will be held every Saturday at 5 p.m., for which no prior reservation will be necessary.
