Renewed the Airport agreement

Renewed the Airport agreement

Andorra la VellaThe Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility, David Forné, attended this Thursday the meeting of the Joint Commission for the Management, Operation and Promotion of the Andorra–La Seu Airport Urgell The meeting, of an ordinary nature, has made it possible to take stock of the operation of the infrastructure and analyze the investments promoted.

One of the first points discussed was to confirm that the Government, as the Generalitat of Catalonia has already done, has given the green light to the automatic renewal of the agreement for the shared management of the airport together with the Generalitat, owner of the infrastructure . This agreement, which dates from 2020, specifies that the Government will contribute a maximum of 400,000 euros per year to cover, at most, 50% of the airport’s operating deficit.

Beyond the renewal of the agreement, both parties have celebrated the increase in activity that has been registered this 2024 at the airport, which has a positive impact on the territory with an increase in economic activity. Thus, it has been shown that this year 75% more passengers have been registered compared to 2023, which translates into 18% more operations and 28% more days with the airport activated with commercial flights .

More specifically, and with regard to Air Nostrum’s commercial flights that receive financial support from the Government based on employment, it has been highlighted that in 2024 10,664 passengers will have flown there with a total of 291 operations. Of this total of operations, 93% of the flights were able to complete the route normally, and only 4% had to be diverted due to the weather and 3% due to the company’s internal management . These data are much higher than those registered last year when the percentage was around 81%.

With regard to service beyond the commercial, the commission has also noted that there has been a growth in the activity of air taxis and the activity linked to the hangars, so the airport continues to work to promote the creation of 9 new hangars (3 of 1,200 m2 and 6 of 600 m2) for which there is already demand and interest.

The Andorran delegation to the meeting has been completed with the participation of the Director of Energy and Transport, Carles Miquel. On the Catalan side, the Director General of Aeroports de Catalunya, Jordi Candela, and the director of Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell Airport, Òscar Madrid, took part.
