carfax has carried out a detailed analysis of the almost 200,000 electric cars that currently circulate on Spanish roads based on the information obtained from its extensive database. Among the data obtained, there are issues such as average age, percentage of risks or cities with the highest concentration of this type of vehicles.
According to data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Sellers (Ganvam)in 2023 some 113,000 electric cars were registered in Spain. However, Carfax already has data on 199,288 electric cars that are in circulation on Spanish roads.
What the data says
Thus, after analyzing the histories of practically all of the electric cars in our country from its database and subsequent analysis, the data indicates that there is a 14% of these vehicles with some type of risk. Among them, the most notable is belonging to a fleet of rental vehicles, making up 8% of the total electric cars. After this, it should be noted that 5% of these cars are imported and that a 1% have suffered previous accidents or damages.
The fleet of electric cars has a very low age, since the cars have an average age of just 2 years, highlighting the youth of this type of vehicle compared to the aging national vehicle fleet.
To further adjust the profile of the typical electric car in Spain, the data also reveals that the 77% of these vehicles are less than 3 years old old, highlighting the recent nature of most EVs.
Furthermore, the 71% of the cars analyzed have a sole owner, which reflects a trend of stability in this segment. Given that these vehicles are relatively new in the Spanish market, their presence in the second-hand market is still limited compared to other types of vehicles, although it should be noted that the 17% of the total number of electric cars is leasing at the moment.
Madrid, at the forefront of electric cars
Regarding its distribution by region, the city with the highest number of electric cars is Madridwith a 36% of the total. The podium is completed by Barcelonawith a 13%, and Valenciawith a 5%. In this way, the analysis reflects that the inclusion of electric cars is greater in large cities.
