Bartumeu calls for profound changes to the Agreement’s negotiating team

Andorra la VellaFormer Prime Minister Jaume Bartumeu believes that there must be changes to the team leading the negotiations with Europe on the association agreement. Bartumeu calls for a “radical approach” and has pointed out the Secretary of State, Landry Riba, because he believes he is not capable of managing the agreement, since he says he does not have “technical knowledge or political experience” to manage it. The former head of government defends that Andorra’s accession to the European market is “necessary for the economic development of the country” and supports it because it will be positive, but also indicates that the negotiation has been poorly conducted because there are some “gaps and shortcomings”. In this sense, he believes that the impact that the entry of agricultural products can bring with the drop in customs tariffs has not been analyzed or that pharmacies may be harmed because they will have a loss of income, noting that they will be able to market Swiss or American products, as they did until now. These are some of the premises that Bartumeu sets out in the notebook ‘Europe is not an option, it is a necessity’ published by the Center for Social Democratic Studies and Research.
