I orderThe Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Mònica Bonell, presented this Thursday at noon, accompanied by the director of the Department of Cultural Promotion, Joan-Marc Joval, the renovation project of the National Auditorium. In order to ensure that the work is carried out in optimal conditions, the ministry has decided to close the facilities between February and November 2025. In order to improve the conditions in which the equipment is located, the executive has planned several games for a total of 770,000 euros.
“The auditorium is thirty years old and has long required comprehensive maintenance work. It is our responsibility to ensure that the cultural facilities have the best conditions, both for the users and for the artists who use them.” Bonell reported.
This closure means the suspension of the Season of the Concert Hall, as announced by the owner of Cultura, which usually takes place between January and May, during which top-level pop-rock music groups pass through. “We will allocate the amount planned for the Season to support the country’s cultural sector”, he assured.
With regard to the planned interventions, they highlight the improvement of the energy efficiency of the equipment, with the change of the diesel heating system to a new air conditioning system that uses green energy (aerothermic system) and the replacement of the current lighting, interior and exterior, by an LED and a change of the energy supply system, in order to improve the system that lends to the building.
On the other hand, the security of the Auditorium will be improved, both with regard to the emergency systems and the fireproofing of the materials (wood and curtains). “The system complied with the regulations at the time it was built, but it is necessary to update the systems to guarantee maximum security and to follow the current regulations in this area,” said Joan-Marc Joval.
The comprehensive rehabilitation of the stage, the updating of the dressing rooms, the renovation of the ticket office, the change of the motors of the curtain and the curtains of the ‘smoke removal’ windows have also been planned. Finally, carpentry work will be carried out, rehabilitation of the access pavement to the building, updating of the dressing rooms and comprehensive painting work.
