Macron visits Notre-Dame before its reopening

Andorra la VellaThe French president and co-prince of Andorra, Emmanuel Macronvisited the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris today in his last inspection before the official reopening scheduled for December 7. This visit marks the end of a monumental restoration project that began after the devastating April 2019 fire, which destroyed the roof, structure and iconic 19th-century spire.

Macron, accompanied by his wife Brigitte and prominent political and religious representatives, toured various parts of the restored building, including the nave, the transept cross and the newly reconstructed wooden structure. During the visit, televised live internationally, he highlighted the “recovered splendor” of the stones and the restored colors of the chapels, praising the “collective feat” of the more than 2,000 people involved in the reconstruction work .

The reopening of Notre-Dame has become a symbol of national pride, aligned with other recent successes such as the Paris Olympics, and represents a pivotal moment for Macron in the current political context. The official schedule includes a reopening ceremony on December 7, with dignitaries from around the world expected to attend, although Pope Francis has declined the invitation.
