Andorra la VellaThe French sports trade giant, Decathlonwill realize his long desire to settle in Andorra after more than a decade of attempts. The opening is planned for the end of 2026with a strategic location in the new commercial and residential center of The Marginedalocated between Sant Julià de Lòria i Andorra la Vella.
A reference shopping center in the Pyrenees
The project, led by Andimesaowner of Gala Perfumeries, is developed on land of more than 30,000 square meters owned by Molines Patrimoni. This space will also include a Alcampo and seeks to become a commercial reference in the Pyrenees. It will be directly connected to the General Road 1.
Concerns about fit with premium tourism
Although the arrival of Decathlon represents a major commercial milestone, it has generated concern about its impact on Andorra’s tourism strategy, focused on positioning itself as the Monaco of the Pyrenees with a focus on premium tourism.
Andorra Tourism considers that Decathlon’s model, based on competitive prices and high sales volumes, might not fit in with the aim of attracting tourists with higher average tickets. This situation recalls the emergence of operators like druni or primorwhich have increased competition in traditional sectors such as perfumery.
The sports sector is not concerned
Despite the potential impact, the Andorran sports cluster does not express significant concern about the arrival of Decathlon. He states that the impact will depend on the degree of specialization of each establishment and considers that, after so many years talking about this possibility, the landing was inevitable.
With this opening, Andorra could experience a change in its commercial landscape, adding a new major player that will seek to position itself as a point of reference for sports lovers, both locals and tourists.
